‘Jean-Michel Basquiat: Now is the Time’ explores some of the most important themes of Jean-Michel Basquiat’s innovative work (1960-1988) through some 100 paintings and drawings by the artist that will be on display at the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao from 3 July to 1 November 2015.

Basquiat was one of the most revolutionary artists of the 1980s. He was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, and from a young age he stood out for his intellectual and artistic skills, which his mother encouraged.

Basquiat’s fame grew as he exhibited in North America and Europe; he soon became a prolific artist and a cultural media figure. Basquiat broke new ground in contemporary art. His innovative artistic perspective continues to inspire contemporary artists and raises questions that are still relevant today.
