Myths and Rites. Mario Cravo Neto

On 18 June, 2018

Although Mario Cravo Neto (Brazil, 1947-2009) became well-known as a painter, photography had always been part of his creative career. ‘Myths and Rites’ is a comprehensive collection of his photographic work. His work uses diverse elements to construct an artistic language that mixes religion and eroticism, violence and drama, nature and culture. It stages rituals and mythologies that synthesize the cultural, ethnic and racial confluence of the northeast of Brazil; the mixture of the tradition of the indigenous population with the Portuguese and African cultural legacy.
